Konjac Sponges - Natural Sustainable Skincare

Konjac sponges are a must-have item if you are looking to switch your skincare products to something gentle, natural, and sustainable. Made from the root of the Konjac plant, a perennial vegetable belonging to the Araceae family, and native to Asia, Konjac sponges are naturally nourishing and exquisitely gentle on even the most delicate skin.

To make the sponges the Konjac root is dried and ground to make a powder, it is then mixed with calcium hydroxide and heated, frozen, then dried to form the final product - a gentle alkaline sponge that is suitable for use by the whole family.

The Konjac plant has a long history of use in Asian cultures, and is thought to have been used in cooking and skin care for over 2000 years. The Japanese people initially used Konjac fibres when caring for babies, due to it being an excellent natural and gentle cleanser for babies skin.

Konjac fibre is naturally nourishing and contains proteins, lipids, fatty acids, copper, zinc, iron, and an array of vitamins. Our Konjac Sponge are made with 100% pure natural Konjac, that is enriched with extracts and vitamins to promote healthy skin. The natural fibres within each sponge form a unique net-like structure which gently massages skin and stimulates blood flow, and the growth of new skin cells.

When using the Konjac sponge you will notice just how soft and fine the texture is, and this, along with its other inherent benefits, is what makes the Konjac sponge gentle enough to use everyday to cleanse, exfoliate, and nourish your skin. It will remove dirt, oil, and pollutants, as well as dead skin cells, and is similar in effect to dry body brushing, but gentle enough for the delicate skin on your face.

Konjac sponges can be used with a facial cleanser, or with water alone, and our sponges are enhanced with infused vitamins and extracts to assist with removing excess oil and clearing blemishes. They are ideal for all skin types and can be used by everyone in the family. They make the perfect exfoliator for sensitive skin, and leave your skin feeling naturally clean & refreshed.

Some popular benefits of the Konjac sponge are:

  • It naturally moisturises the skin
  • It eliminates blackheads, oil and dirt
  • It is alkaline in nature and works to preserve the normal PH balance of the skin
  • It removes acne-causing bacteria
  • It gently exfoliates the skin for a healthy, natural glow

While Konjac sponges are amazing for looking after our skin, they need to be looked after as well - but don’t worry, it’s easy!

To keep your sponge fresh and give it the longest life it’s important to rinse it well in clean water, and air dry it completely after each use. While caring for your Konjac sponge will definitely extend it’s life, remember it is a natural product and it does break down, so will need to be replaced regularly - every 8-12 weeks is best.

At Skye Candle and Body Care, we are conscious of our impact on the environment as well as on your skin! Our Konjac sponge is made of 100% natural Konjac fibre and infused with vitamins / Extracts. It is organic, vegan and chemical-free, and 100% biodegradable, so when you are finished using it, it can be added straight to your compost to break down naturally. We also avoid the use of plastics by packaging our Konjac sponges only in cardboard boxes, and we love to give back to our community by donating $1 from the sale of every Konjac sponge to local charities.
