We love how our Skye Candle and Body Care candles, melts and tea lights have the power to change the ambience of a room. Beautifully scented, homemade and handcrafted. Our products are clean, gentle and long-lasting. We hope you love them as much as we do.

What are the burning times for the scented soy candles?

With proper candle care, each scented soy candle has a burn time of up to 50 hours.

Do you sell soy candles in sample sizes?

Yes, we do. You can purchase a standard tea light size as a soy candle sample. It’s the perfect choice if you are uncertain about a scent or would like to see the quality of our products before purchasing a full size.

Where are these scented soy candles made?

All Skye Candle and Body Care products are homemade and handcrafted in a city we chose to call home – Wellington, New Zealand

What type of wax do you use in your candles?

We only use 100% natural soy wax (no nasties around here) to make our scented soy candles. Soy wax is a plant-based wax which is non-carcinogenic, and non-toxic. Soy wax candles are more economical, as they burn 50% longer than candles made of paraffin waxes. Soy candles produce little or no soot at all, so they are gentle for those who have breathing issues and allergies.

What wicks do you use in your soy candles?

We're use ECO wicks, which is constructed from natural flat cotton threads interwoven with paper threads. The wick will have a slight curl, produce a consistent flame and ensures an even burn. ECO wicks are lead and zinc free

Are your candles Paraben & Phthalate free?

Our soy candles are made of soy wax, which is GMO-FREE, contains NO paraffin and NO unnatural additives. Soy waxes are biodegradable, renewable and environmentally safe

Why do soy candles start to change colour?

It’s not uncommon for a soy candle to change colour. The surface might look a bit dry or flaky if the candle hasn’t been burnt for a while. This is because soy wax is a natural product. When you relight the candle, the surface will return to normal

What kind of fragrances do you use in your scented soy candles?

We use both synthetic fragrances and essential oil blends to create our soy candles and melts. These fragrances are free from phthalates and paraffins and are non-toxic. Our fragrances are highly purified, safe and made from premium quality ingredients. Soy wax holds aromas well and due to the low melting point of the wax, the fragrance oils can be released slowly to live up to their full aromatic potential.

How can I get the most burn time out of my soy candle?

💚 Trim your wick to 1/4" before each lighting

💚 Allow the melted wax pool to reach the edges of the jar before extinguishing, to prevent wax from building along the sides of the jar and tunnelling

💚 We recommend burning for approximately 3 hours at a time, and no longer than 4 hours.

💚 Occasionally, if you need extra hours of burning, trim the wick carefully and relight it.

💚 Carefully light the wicks using matches or a candle lighter

💚 Extinguish the flames after each use

💚 Allow the melted wax pool to reach the edges to prevent tunnelling.

💚 Burn for approximately 3 hours at a time, and no longer than 4 hours

💚 Pop your lit candle on the wooden lid or plate to protect surfaces

What is candle tunnelling, and how do I fix it?

When a candle burns straight down the middle of the candle instead of right to the edges, it's called tunnelling. Tunnelling happens when the candle is burned for a short time. To avoid tunnelling, make sure your first light of the candle lasts for at least 2 hours or until the pool reaches the edges. To fix tunnelling, scoop out to remove the built-up wax with a spoon and relight the candle, make sure you allow it to burn right to the edges this time

Can I recycle my jar after my soy candle is finished?

Yes, absolutely. Once you're finished with your candle, peel off the stickers and pour some boiling water into the jar with a bit of dishwashing powder or detergent. Let it cool down, and the remaining wax will rise at the top. Pour out the water and remove the remaining wick from the bottom of the jar. Give the jar another quick wash and a little scrub, then let it dry before you use it. Alternatively, you can dispose of your jar in the blue coloured recycling bin.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Never leave a candle burning unattended, or within reach of pets, or small children or near drafts. Soy tea lights will be hot after burning, so allow the wax to cool completely before handling. Never leave the tea lights on top of a plastic surface, even when using a candle holder.
