Hydrosols, is also known as floral waters, essential waters, and herbal waters, which is water soluble components obtained by hydro distillation from plants. This creates a much gentler, more diluted product which is generally safer to use than an essential oil. It is important to note that hydrosols are NOT simply distilled water with essential oils added to them.
Popular hydrosols for skincare include Rose, Roman Chamomile, Manuka and Lavender.
Find out creative ways on how to use hydrosols below!
Facial Toner - Hydrosols are lovely refreshing tonic and make an amazing nourishing and healing skin toner. They have many roles on the skin, depending which hydrosol is used.
Body Mist - Misting and spraying hydrosols is the most popular way of using them. Try mixing different hydrosols to create your own signature scents, and store it in a mist spray bottle. Lightly mist your body to feel cooled and refreshed.
Skin Cleanser - Hydrosols can be used as a skin cleanser by dipping sufficient amount to dampen a cotton pad and cleanse your entire face. It will reach into your deep skin; remove dead cells and other impurities.
Face Mask - Pour 1/4 teaspoon of clay into the palm of your hand and drip enough hydrosol onto it to form a paste consistency. Massage onto damp face and neck, then rinse. This is a great detoxifying face mask which will leave your skin incredibly smooth, refreshed and never dry and tight.
Hair Fragrance Spray - Mist your hair to leave it hydrated and lightly fragranced. Use it after a bath or before heading to bed. Rose hydrosol keeps my hair smell exotic and irresistible!
For Babies - Unlike most of the essential oils, hydrosols are safe for babies. Hydrosols like Chamomile are very helpful for soothing teething. Rub some chamomile hydrosol on your babies’ gums, or give them a clean organic cotton wash cloth dipped in hydrosol to chew on.
Monster Repellent - Calming hydrosols like Lavender can be used to help calm and soothe babies and children.
Linen Spray - Use hydrosols to freshen and fragrance sheets, towels and other linens.
Air Freshener - Simply spray the hydrosol to freshen up the atmosphere and avoid furniture. It adds, benefits to your emotions too.
Bath - Unwind and de-stress your body and soul with a cup of hydrosols along with a cup of Epsom salt for a detoxifying bath.
Eye Pads - Soak 2 cotton pads in hydrosol, highly recommending, chamomile and place pads on your eyes. Relax for 15 minutes to relax your eyes, reduces eye puffiness and dark circles.
Meditation Spray - Hydrosols can be used to help enhance meditation and prayer.
Ear Drops - By applying 2 drops of lavender hydrosol externally on ears, you can alleviate blocked ears, ear infections and ear pain. Make sure the hydrosols are at room temperature.
Aftershave – Personally, I would recommend Lavender hydrosol for men as an after shave. Lavender Hydrosols are full of antibacterial agent, which helps with minor cuts and leaves a fresh scent.
